The county was named in honour of the famous citizen and political figure Simon Snyder, who was governor of Pennsylvania. Information technology is located in the mid-central area of the state.[2]

Lutheran
The first church building in Selin's Grove was the Union Church (subsequently known as the First Lutheran Church). The Evangelical Lutheran Church was created from members of the First Lutheran Church building in 1843.[8]

Methodist
It is unknown when the Methodist Episcopal Church was first organized, but they errected their own church in 1848.[8]

Reformed
The Reformed congregation met as early on as 1780. In 1802 they met in a union church building with the Lutherans until 1855 when they built their own church.[8]

Court of Mutual Pleas
The Courts of Common Pleas are the trial courts of Pennsylvania. Major civil and criminal cases are heard in these courts. Judges besides make up one's mind cases involving adoption, divorce, child custody, corruption, juvenile delinquency, estates, guardianships, charitable organizations and many other matters. The Common Pleas courts are organized into sixty judicial districts. Snyder Canton shares its judicial commune with Union.[10]

Probate matters in Snyder County are handled by the Orphans' Court and beginning when the county was created.

In addition to wills and administrations, the Orphans' Court too handles: audits of accounts of executors, administrators, trustees, and guardians; distribution of estates; appointments of guardians; adoptions; appeals from the Register of Wills; inheritance revenue enhancement appeals, and various petitions and motions. Vital Records [edit | edit source]

Vital records are handled by the County Orphans' Court. Between the years 1852-1855 Pennsylvania made a failed try to record nativity, marriage and death events at the canton level. County spousal relationship records were kept in hostage in 1885. Births and deaths, at the county level, were begun in 1893 and kept through 1905.
